The Red Barn was built by Leland Stanford more than a century ago as the training stable for his Palo Alto Stock Farm. Restored in 1984, it is the most significant remnant of a grandiose experiment in scientific breeding and training of horses that took place between 1876 and 1903 on what is now the University campus.
